Yes, this too is awful. Yes my heart goes out to all sick and families impacted by needless death. However, where was the world during HIV/AIDS crisis? Millions died and keep dying - did the world suddenly stop for us too?? SUGGESTION. Forget elbow-wagging to replace handshakes or hugs. Point Index finger upwards around the planet to remember, WE CAME FIRST! We came first. Don't spread the virus, SPREAD THE WORD. We came first.

I think the difference is that AIDS is transmitted by sexual contact and not essentially randomly. Also, there is no comparison between the rapidity and extent of the spread of the AIDS virus and COVID-19. Then too, there is the fact that AIDS primarily effected a politically unpopular segment of the population. The first two are legitimate reasons for the difference in the response, the third is not.

    Hugs,

True of the US , Europe, Australia etc but in Africa the initial spread of HIV was largely via heterosexual intercourse. Today rising infection rates in straight youth often results from the myth AIDS and other STD’s are gay diseases. In some countries today the major percentage of new cases are acquired by opiate etc addicts through sharing needles.
We also have to face the problem many young gay men take unnecessary risks due to their belief AIDS is a ‘manageable' disease. If they had any contact with those now being kept alive with a cocktail of anti-virals etc and the often horrible side effects they might think differently.
