I'm in school for my Bachelors of Music- Music Therapy. I might add on a Psychology minor, since it would only be three extra classes.

What about the rest of you?

My wife has those exact ones as well :)  She later added more stuff but those were the base she built upon. Good ones to give you space to expand.

    You would :p

I graduated from college in 2017. My major was social sciences. I also got a certificate in personal computers.

JacktheNipper Music therapy sounds great. A psychology minor probably would be a great add-on to go along with that.

It is, especially if you deal directly with individual people or small groups. My wife regularly plays for people in a terminal state, people with dementia, unresponsive people. It's very important to be able to understand a bit of the psyche of people in those situations. She also recently started playing for babies in the NICU...it's adorable to see those tiny babies reaching towards the sound :)

I majored in health related studies for my associate degree in science and now my major is business administration.

    Hahaha! That's perfect!

Music therapy is really effective with dementia patients and NICU patients from what I know so far- but it's only been a semester lol. I'm both nervous and excited to start practicums next semester.

Nice! What got you into that major? I always like the stories behind that.

Psych is definitely a good minor to add on, it gives you a bit more perspective to work with- which helps with session plans and such.

Wow, that's a bit of a switch up. What made you turn to business instead of sticking with the sciences?

It's very rewarding as well. Can be a bit stressful depending on where you're playing. My wife recently playing in a high security prison. The day before she went she got a huger list of things she couldn't do: Wear skirts, look certain prisoners in the eyes, wear high heels, mention last names or anything related to where she lives, wear perfume.....the list went on and on.
She was understandably a bit scared but then she went in there and made all those tear tattoo manly men cry with her music. Quite a powerful experience.

I love to help people, which is one of the reasons I love this forum and I'm in this major. I didn't know what I wanted to do until my junior year of high school- and that's because I had to know. I was in a dual credit program where I had almost sixty credit hours when I left, so I didn't have many buffer classes/ general education credits left to complete. One of the gen eds I'd taken before I ended up at my current school was psychology. Before I took it, I thought I would hate it but I ended up liking it so much I wanted to have it in my major somehow. I already knew that I liked helping people and I wanted to do something with music too, and music therapy was the intersection of all three. So now that's my major.

Sounds like you're going the right way :D

I keep forgetting to answer your question for myself. I was a programmer for 10 years (software development, web design, graphic design, etc) and then decided to switch it around and studied physiotherapy ^_^

Well, my first "choice" was forced on me but since it's the kind of career where you have to keep studying, the more time and money I invested in diplomas (20+ total) the harder it was to say "screw it" and move on to something different but eventually the call to help people spoke more loudly and I jumped ship.

I do like it but I got recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia so ironically my previous job would be better for my health than the one I have now...

Oh no, that's terrible! Hopefully it gets less painful with treatment.

I originally wanted to be a registered nurse, but after talking to my aunt who had a career as a licensed practical nurse for decades, I decided I would prefer to work behind the scenes. And now I'm into human resources.

I'm currently in my 5th year, progressing towards a Masters in Philosophy. It's beating the hell out of me so far but I shall endure. I'm also somewhat close, couple terms I suppose, away from completing a Bachelors in History but so far i'm not decided if I will ever complete that. Maybe after I've extricated myself from my current quagmire.

I love that, good for you!

Damn, you took on a lot! Not only did you choose a hard major to begin with, but you have another one in history. Hang in there, you've got this!

JacktheNipper I chose social sciences because I've struggled with mental health problems so it was something I was interested in. I actually ended up working in marketing and sales now so I'm not using my degree but oh well. I do think going to college helped me grow as a person though so I'm glad I went.
