You know, the ones that make an account and just post one thread where the thread name is the title and the actual post is describing whatever it is.

It's a result of not enough mods being online to remove it.

From what i understand there is not much that can be done without a budget and some software knowledge. But Barefoot may be able to clarify the issue better

Probably because the spammers and those who program the bots think of them as new members, and think that people looking for newbies will look there and see their spam.

If you notice a spam post that doesn't have an obvious URL in it, or one that's not at the top of a page, please report it. We have a spam filter that catches most of the posts with URLs in them, and the moderators catch most of the ones that show up as new posts, but there are only so many mods and we can't catch everything. Also, links sometimes get missed. A link is text that shows up in red, and when you click on it, it takes you to another page. Links to worthwhile information, [appropriate] images, good music, etc. are OK, but ones that lead to advertising, porn, naked pics, or a chat site or blog are not allowed and should be reported. Other chat sites and blogs are not allowed because they are effectively off-site communication, which we do not allow for security reasons. Predators use off-site contact to set up real life meetings which essentially result in kidnappings (for real, and because we have so many young, vulnerable, and naive members, we are a highly favored hunting ground for predators -- keeping them from being able to operate here is our #1 priority as it really is a life or [worse than] death issue). A link can be identified as a link and not just text that has been posted in red, by positioning your mouse over the red text and looking in the lower left corner of your screen. If it's a link, you will see the URL that the link points to. Here is a sample link: LINK

    Hugs,
    Audry Leigh

Like Audry said, Spambots are usually set up by various sources via either malware or some other kind of malicious software. They are set up to attack different forum sites like this one. I'm not the most techno savy but that's my understanding.
