I was curious about everyone’s thoughts on museums. I work in a museum and I have always loved them. But in a recent training at my job we spoke in depth about how people feel about their role in society and the value of feeling represented or connected to museums.

A recent study by the American Association of Museums found that support for and belief in the cultural value of museums is one of the rare things that cross political divides in America. Which I found very interesting in our current political climate.

So my questions for you all are:

    What’s your favorite museum?

Do you feel represented in any museums?

What’s your opinion of the value of museums culturally?

Do you think museums have a duty to take a political stance, or a duty to not to?

What was your best experience in a museum?

What was your worst experience in a museum?

When you think of “museum” what things come to mind?

If you could improve anything about your local museum, what would you change?

Answer any, all, or none of these questions. But if you don’t answer my questions, at least post some pictures of hot men. Or feel free to share thoughts that are vaguely connected to museums.

It will take me a bit to answer your questions. I live in VA/DC/MD (US) metro area so there A LOT of measums here from art of all centuies, military, news history, politics, and more.

I wish one day I will go to the new LGBTQ museum in California http://www.glbthistory.org/museum/

As for cute guys, your guess is as good as mine. If you list cute girls, I'll try to find a few. ;)

I’ll be inclusive and accept cute women posted here as well.

DC has a lot of great museums. I love the Air and Space Museum.

It’s hard to say I love it, but I also find the Holocaust museum very well done. They do immersive spaces very well, it’s intereting how they display disturbing content in such a way that younger people or people who can’t handle it don’t have to see it, and their kids section is really, really good.

One of my biggest complaints about the 9/11 museum here in NYC is that it just bombards you with the imagery. I couldn’t handle it, it was re-traumatizing.

I guess I should answer. We only have one small museum in our town. And it doesn't have much of much.

But some of the timed exhibit were interesting like when the recreated the interior of the old ships and stuff

Cool. Ive only been to NY once near where the Ball Drop.. but didnt go see it drop though.

I think out of all of the DC meseums I like the Smithsonean and National Gallery of art. I can spend all day there, take a break and watch the fake watefall in the Cafeteria and then go adventure to another part of the Museum. I used to volunteer at the U.S. Capitol; and, they have good history there too.

My trigger spot is the Holocaust Meseum. I only went once but didnt watch the videos just slid through it and checked it off my list. I havent been to the Air and Space in a really long time. The National Museum of Natural History is my favorite. Its a two hour bus/metro route from where I live; so, Id go in the morning and hit the different areas that way.

I havent gone to the 9/11 museums. I cant take in history of death-related events. Dinosaurs and Michelangelo is pretty cool with me.

I guess I go to museums for two reasons - I like to learn just as an individual, but as a museum educator, I also like seeing how exhibits are designed and how educators teach the content. That’s the main reason I went to the 9/11 museum. The tour guide did a good job, but i didn’t get anything out of the museum itself. It’s not for people who lived through that.

I think museums can be a great thing. Educational and the only chance some people will have to see certain things.

But I have one major problem with them at the same time. Too many get their "exhibits" from grave robbing.

    2 words:

    King Tutankhamon

I have half a mind to dig up Howard Carter and call it archaeology. If you don't like that give me ONE good reason it's different. Age of grave doesn't count or matter. You don't learn anything from robbing a grave. Anyone who says otherwise is delusional.
