I am a masculine girl and I prefer more masculine girls. I have been dragged by the stereotype of "masculine girls can only date feminine girls" when I experience attraction to masculine girls when I, myself am more masculine than feminine. like I have short hair, a more boyish personality, wear chest binders, like to dress masculine, and all that jazz, but I am looking for someone with those masculine traits but I find that lots of lesbians like it the stereotypical way. Any tips?

I'm a feminine woman who likes other feminine women so I get the same kind of stereotypical comments and it's so annoying. Not every lesbian is into the stereotypical masculine and feminine dating so you should be able to find someone. If you are open to dating intersex or transgender women that may make it a little easier but even if you aren't I think you should be able to find someone anyway. I saw in another post you are a teen so since you are probably too young to use dating apps I recommend seeing if your school has a gay-straight alliance and also looking around your community for LGBT groups. Where I am there are a lot of groups specifically for teenagers so hopefully the same is true in your area.

well there are a lot of LGBTQIA+ people in my town and all of my first cousins on my dads side of the family are queer. Thanks for the advice! I appreciate knowing that someone else has a similar problem.

Well I am a personal trainer and I am not masculine in that sense but I am toned and like to keep in shape, but I prefer girly girls like my self

But don't mind big strong masculine girls, hmm : )

dear god, wtf? Ok, so time to re-re-educate myself...again. In 2024 it will be "LGBTQIAYGDGLWA+"

    Person 1: "What are you?"

Person 2: "Well, I'm a lesbian who feels more gay, but I cross dress in those little outfits that old people dress their poodles in, and I'm attracted romantically to dolphins but sexually to everyone under 5ft. tall....but they must have a slight red tint to their skin color or I won't enjoy the sex."

Person 1: "Oh, well that makes you "SOL"

    sorry, carry on...

Yup. Banged to rights. It's flipper porn all night long with me. Since the court order, though, I'm not allowed within 500 yards of Sea World.

TBH I was going to say something about "free willy", but discretion prevailed. :)

    hahaha...omg. ok, tmi!

I feel responsible for derailing this thread, so I better chime in something "OT"

I think the stereotypes are just that, stereotypes..I am femme, and I generally like femme girls, or at most soft butch. The way we dress is almost a non issue for me. if I just got done working out you'd find it difficult to locate a piece of "female specific" clothing on me, save the sports bra and underwear. I also like jeans and athletic shorts, tennis shoes or cross trainers, and a t-shirt more than "girl clothes." Its just more comfortable. I don't have any aversion to dresses or wearing feminine clothes either though. They all have their place. My guess is that if you put yourself out there, like on a dating site, or going to wherever you go to find other lesbians, that you wouldn't have too much trouble finding your type. Also, personality plays a huge role in all this. Sure, appearance might be what attracts us initially to a person, but beyond that, appearance and looks give way to the more important aspects of who a person really is on the inside.

On a more related note I saw a very dapper person today of unknown gender. They were rather smexy in the grey suit and purple tie. They looked a bit alt rock. They were also sporting a blonde pixie cut with long faux side burns.

Tasty.  BTW, I've never heard 'smexy' before. Real word or typo? Either way, I like it. :)

OK so I looked it up. "Smart+Sexy", is it - righto. On that basis, this morning I am sporting my usual combination of slovenliness and ugliness. Yes, folks - I'm slugly. :)

I’ve always hated that stereotype that every gay couple has a “man” and “woman” or butch and femme etc aspect to it. It perpetuates the idea that being straight is like our default setting so we have to mimic a straight couple even if we’re not. I’ve always been rather “masculine,” although I prefer the term androgynous, and find myself very much attracted to other androgynous people (mostly women,) so growing up that stereotype was not helpful and made me feel like I couldn’t even do being gay right! The best advice for finding someone will always be that cliché: be yourself, and be unapologetic about it. Be the most confident, vibrant version of yourself and the right people will find you (or you them!) Also, flirt.

Also also, go to a gay pride when you can. It makes you realise how many wonderfully queer folk there are in the world (where do they all disappear to when the day is over?!) I was at Brighton pride yesterday and feel so good for having seen the multi-faceted beauty of our communities.

I'm with you in that regard. It's like asking a male gay couple who is pitching and catching. I've known almost as many effeminate gay men that preferred topping as those that didn't. I'm sure it is the same with lesbian couples. There always seems to to be a fascination with archaic male female power dynamics that really were more of a male power fantasy than they were a reality. It even bleeds over into non-heterosexual relationship dynamics. Honestly I hate all these games people play.
