I found this website, https://www.pridecounseling.com/. Basically it's online therapy for the LGBT population. Has anyone tried it and if so what did you think? They say their fees range from $35-$80 a month for unlimited counseling. I've answered some general mental health questions but so far they haven't given me an exact price. Am not giving any billing information unless I get an exact price. So honestly so far I'm not impressed but am struggling to find decent counseling. Called an in-person counseling center in my insurance but they said I don't fit their program so I'm getting discouraged. I wish it wasn't so hard to find a decent therapist.

I had a look at the website. It all looks very professional and legit - but then it would do, wouldn't it? ;)

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it per se, but one thing that leapt out at me was a total lack of information as to who is actually behind this business venture - cos let's face it, that's what it is. I'd feel an awful lot happier if it were being run by (or at least endorsed by) a known LGBT+ charity or pressure group, such as Stonewall.

Also, I looked through their FAQ page and found that, although all of their counsellors are qualified people, there's no requirement for the counsellors themselves to be from within the LGBT+ community. That may not matter to some, but I know that if I had sexuality-related mental health problems, I sure as hell wouldn't want to be talking to a straight consellor, no matter how supposedly well trained in LGBT+ issues.

Just FYI: I've just done a quick google search, and in the UK there's a charitable organisation called MindOut, which offers mental health counselling and support for LGBT+ people. Here's their website: https://www.mindout.org.uk
I wonder if there is anything of a similar nature in the USA?

Thank you Thespis, and good point. I've seen some LGBT crisis lines here but I'm not in a crisis. They seem to define a crisis as being actively suicidal or self-injuring which I'm not. Still need support though.

One of the few times I differ with Thespis as I am using Pride Counseling.

I walked out on the company that my insurance would pay for and did a search.

My Therapist has been great and made a difference (I had a lot of baggage besides coming out at 62).

    The cost is reasonable.

I have reached a Peace I have not had before and an understanding of who and what I am.

If you do not like it, it is easy to break it off.

I normally would not push but I am blessed with the service I have gotten.

I wish you luck and hope you find something that works.

    Jo

You won't find me arguing with a personal testimonial! That's excellent news, Jo. Good to know they could help. :)

Thank you - It is hard to find someone to crack through my shields I had up and respect the fact I am transgender.

You are also my role model of a good person - Jo
