How lucky you are Audry, Poor, dear departed Joan Rivers at your age said if she didn’t wear a bra she’d trip up on hers.

As to the original topic I recently became the proud owner of a Mini Cooper five door. 4 cyl hatch. My dogs aren’t too happy with the rear room compared to my previous Mitsubishi Lancer but I’m in love with the way this thing drives. I have to watch myself though as it’s induced a dangerous desire to speed. I hate the taillights . So much so I’m looking into having them modified.

A mate [buddy in the US] who owns a used motor bike outlet tried to talk me into a gorgeous BMW bike. Given my balance isn’t what it used to be I declined telling him I might have fun but I’d soon kill myself. His subtle response was 'Ah mate, at least you’d die happy’

We do know what a "mate" is, here in the US.
Balance is not what holds a motorcycle up. I have gotten clean off of them, climbing on to a buddy's adjacent bike, and left mine to run down the road all by itself for miles (Nebraska -- straight level Interstate highways for 50 miles at a time). It's actually hard to knock a motorcycle over. It's the gyroscopic effect of very heavy rims/tires, spinning at high speed, in the plane of movement that makes a 2 wheeler stable. They truly drive themselves. Mine even negotiated a couple of long, broadly curving downward slopes while I sat on the back of another bike, drank beer, and watched. I've also driven motorcycles successfully when I was too drunk to walk. You don't need balance to ride a motorcycle.

    Hugs,
    Audry

Darling, I rode motorcycles for decades and understand their dynamics. It’s my balance that’s off.
Last time I hopped on a bike I found cornering a terrifying experience to such an extent I found myself nervously not leaning with the bike. And yes, I’ve driven motorcyles more than drunk, even tripping off my face on LSD but I know enough now about my geriatric limitations not to take the risks ever again. Thank you however for the encouragement but the only bike I’d get back on would be a three wheeler and I swore years ago if I reached that stage they could put me in the senile old hippies home.

John, I have had three Mini’s. All on lease but I think I will buy my current car. The first two were three doors with 4cyl engines and the current is a metallic black 5 door with a 3 cyl turbo, manual transmission.

I leased because I was worried about repairs but now that BMW has gotten into the mix the service guys say the cars are more reliable.

I love the car that I have and would build another just like it but they shut down the manufacturing, not sure when they will start production again.

The guys in sales and service have been really helpful and that has been important to a dumb broad like me !

    Enjoy the car!

The new minis may look like the old ones on steroids but they’re a totally different car. OK, they have the same feeling when cornering of being glued to the road but even that I suspect could lead drivers into being too reckless. My first day with the new one found me taking corners at speeds I didn’t have any sense of until I looked at the speedo. The side support from the seats provides part of that illusion I guess, unlike those in the early models which were crap.
I don’t think I’d ever call anyone who’s had three minis ‘a dumb broad’.

For me the manual transmission helps me feel the car. I sit better and am actually driving rather than being driven. I never felt like I was driving a go cart like people say.

This may be the wrong forum to talk about ‘manual trannies’ but they stopped production last year due to emissions problems. Just restarted.

They will be building the electric Mini soon, 3 door. Kind of a cute idea but I am not interested.

Getting in and out in a skirt can be a challenge!

Ya. Or slacks. I generally don’t flash anybody but sometimes I have to get dressed up for work.

Otherwise I am a jeans and T shirt gal.

I tend to wear short skirts (or ball gowns). Getting in and out of any car is a challenge (well not in a gown).

Culottes are about as feminine as bib overalls IMHO.

The Mini is easier than it looks. The doors are wide.
Doubt I would wear a gown in a Mini, if I did I wouldn’t be driving. It’s difficult to drive in glass slippers !

It’s not a colour I would have chosen but it was a 2019 demonstrator going cheap.
It’s a dark metalic maroon with a white roof and large white stripes on the bonnet. Maybe one day I’ll get around to having it re-painted? I’m finding the thick white stripes on the bonnet against the dark maroon unkind to my eyes on sunny days so they’ve got to go.
The white roof I can cope with.

Ya, change the stripes to black. It’s a dealer installed option in the US. I watched the guys install a set in the prep area. Gotta be easy to remove with a heat gun.

Paint the roof black and you are good to go!

I’ll let somone else remove the white stripes. I’m sure I’d stuff it up.
And no, I don’t want a black roof. They get far too hot in summer.
I’m now thinking of going the whole hog and having the entire car re-ducoed in a metalic silver like my last one.

You could have it wrapped! Or just wrap the roof!

Ya, they stop production then bring them back after a few years. I had a Salsa Red/black interior convertible on lease three cars ago. Sexy little looking car because of the color but it was as boring as driving a shopping cart.
